At 6 minutes and 54 seconds, the area briefly looked like the New Road in Chatham, just before the Gibraltar Hill turnoff, before you go over the viaduct.

Proper sounding fire engines ! The siren really wasn’t taken as seriously then as the two tone horns (blues & twos) whereas nowadays you just don’t hear two tone horns except on the railways, it’s all sirens, albeit, they have gotten much better. Also back when this was filmed, we still made purpose built fire engines in Britian, not like today where they are mostly based on an existing truck chassis.

Nice collection, do you happen to know when the last 59 stock operated on the piccadilly? I read somewhere that the last northern line 38 stock operated on 14 april 1978, so I guess it must have been around then...

Nowadays the piccadilly line is apparently speed restricted to 45mph. Would love to know if the max speed was any higher back in the day...

The 1960 stock had rear-view wingmirrors for the driver. I’ve noticed Swiss trains have this on some of the metre gauge lines. Seems a no-brainer!

Compared to these sirens the present day ones sound like toys.

Great video. 47708 appears on my layout, but in her Scotrail guise, as "Waverley". Also, the gap where the old Clapham Junction signalbox was, over the tracks, can be clearly seen!

Never seen a networker at clapham. Wonder what it was doing there.

6:07 look at the speed at which the 59 approaches the platform......not really the sort of thing you would expect to see from a 95! My guess is because the 95s were much newer and full of new technology the drivers preferred to handle them more cautiously, whereas the 59s were on their last legs hence the drivers didn't seem to mind thrashing them about in service. Crazy to think that the 95s have now been around for over 25 years, they still look almost new today, especially with their recent refurbishment...

Nice footage I particularly enjoyed the bouncy ride at the end. But at 7:35 what is the purpose of the arch extending over the track? And at 8:26 where does that alignment of former track lead to?

A lot more freight coming thru Willesden back in the 70's. Always 37 stratford locos. Hauling scrap i guess on the way to Vic Berry's

Fantastic vid. Travelled from Richmond to Broadstreet back in the early 70's. Seem to remember that at Dalstone Junction there was a freight only line to Stratford

Might be a weird question but one of the two guards panels were not working for some reason, the train could not operate with passengers at all right? No door controls in the driving cab?

When I was in London, I always enjoyed travelling on open top bus RMC 1510 on Route 23.

Bet you got your fair share of sore throats and colds doing that job🥶

I worked at Southend Transport and we had Routemasters that was way back in the late 80's. I still conduct Routemasters at 56 on Private Hires and in revenue earning Service . Still love ''Being on the Back'' :-) 🙂

It looks more like a tube train from the side, but BR from the front, and livery is BR. Kind of hybrid looking!
